Why Low Voltage
What
are Stallion's Colonial Lights?
Stallion
has developed stylish low voltage lights specifically
for the vinyl fence and railing industry. They are
powered by a 12 volt transformer to deliver a full
7 watts of power.
What
are the advantages of low voltage lighting?
Low
voltage lights are great for lighting where solar
is not practical. The major advantages of low voltage
lighting systems are economy, safety, security,
and ease of installation. Because the low voltage
lights use low voltage lamps they are very economical
to operate. A typical six-light set uses less electricity
than a 75 -watt bulb! The systems are safer and
easier to install than conventional 120-volt systems.
For instance, if you touch the ware wires or cut
a buried cable with a garden tool, you will not
get a shock.
What
are the disadvantages of low voltage lighting?
Two
disadvantages are the limited range of lights (about
200 feet from the transformer) and it is a hardwire
system.
What
is the amount of light output?
A
typical low voltage lamp delivers between 15 and
30 foot-candles of light. This level of illumination
is about 18% to 25% as bright as a 75-watt lamp,
which makes it ideal for fences, decks and other
outdoor areas where subtle illumination is desired.
Whether you'll perceive it as too bright or not
bright enough is a mater of personal preference.
What
sort of maintenance is associated with Stallion' low
voltage lights?
After
you have installed your low voltage lighting system,
there is very little maintenance that needs to be
done to keep it running smoothly other than replacing
bulbs.
How
often will I need to replace the low voltage lamps?
Low
voltage lamps are designed for long life. Since
most low voltage lamps operate at less voltage than
their capacity ( due to voltage drop), actual bulb
life may be significantly longer. Average bulb life
should be 1500 to 2000 hours.
Am
I able to control when the lights will come on?
Yes,
the transformer has a timer incorporated. This allows
you to have the lights turn off and non up to two
times a day.
